Brief Background of KCC
July 1979 “The Karakariki Camp Trust Board” (KCC Trust) formedBuilding erected through volunteer work, gifts & donations.22 Nov 1980 Main Building dedicated to the glory of God by the Right Honorable L R Adams-Schneider Aim:
· Help the underprivileged.
· Promote and encourage Christian principles and belief.
· Provide Camp to meet the needs of small groups that found it difficult to book larger facilities.
· Promote & Develop Karakariki Camp to achieve the above.
The old Karakariki School site was developed into accommodation, hall and catering vacillates. Property & Buildings is owned by the KCC Trust - There is no Mortgage on the property Early years run by original trustees and caretakers.
July 87 - Feb 1992
Joy & Nigel Crocombe - Full time managers on behalf of KCC Trust. After Crocmbes left the KCC Trust let Camp Redcloud Trust run use the site at no charge. June 1992 - 1998
Camp Redcloud Trust. Operated camp site in their own right. When Camp Redcloud left they took their equipment and previous equipment was worn out, lost or obsolete. Late 1998 -April 1999 Caretaker looking after site April 1999 - 31 July 2000
Joe & Michele Gray ran camp as own business (using own tools, office equipment etc), but working with the KCC Trust. During this time the KCC Trust with the help of donations and gifts were able to upgrade parts of the facility and purchased equipment for activities.
1 August 2000 KCC Trust took back full responsibility of running KCC with Joe & Michelle Gray as managers.
24 April 2001 Grays Moved to Australia (Taking their equipment) and Michael & Mary Popping appointed as managers by KCC Trust. The Poppings had 7 years experience in Christian Camping at Kauaeranga Valley Christian Camp, Michael being Camp Director for the last two years.
24 April 2001 – Current Michael and Mary Popping manage the camp along with the help of their lovely 5 children.
Successful Holiday Camps (plus others) were ran though out the periods of Crocombe, Redcloud and Gray management. Karakariki Christian Camp Trust is committed to improve the facilities, equipment and use of KCC. The KCC Trust will purchase equipment in its own right to avoid loss due to change in staff.
